The KX LAB in Los Angeles is our prototype for a radically more humane, technologically advanced and beautiful knit manufacturing facility that brings consumers, products and the people that make them closer together. Focused specifically on knit footwear and apparel, our 36,000sf facility combines production, R&D, showroom and retail all under one roof. We have a garden too.
Los Angeles is the ideal setting for our bold new experiment. In this, the ‘City of Dreams’, we imagine a new kind of factory. A disruption not just of the manufacturing industry, but of the way things are made, sold, experienced and valued.
A Knit Collaboration Laboratory
The Lab is envisioned as a habitat that endues work-life with a radically new, more natural sense of togetherness. An environment that is humane, nurturing, sensible, productive and enlightened in a way very much akin to temple communities and Oxbridge universities.
Manufacturing The Future
Our proprietary equipment and automated processes incorporate artificial intelligence and machine-learning. Our people lovingly tend to these advanced technologies in the first llight-weight, flexible, ‘all-in-one’ vertically integrated production facility that produces knitted goods right here in the USA.
From Experiments To Products
The Studio is a fluid space where guests and workers experience exhibition, design and production as one lively, transparent and interconnected entity. Our ‘front of house’ dissolves traditional barriers to bring consumers, customers, products and the people that make them closer together.
A Garden Emerges In Chinatown
We imagine our garden as a 'Hortus Conclusus' or ‘Tsuboniwa’, a space that gives a sense of enclosure and full immersion. An oasis in an otherwise industrial desert, it becomes an extension of the values and aesthetics of the interior experience, helping to support the techno-ritual nature of the factory itself.
Automated Knitting
We like to imagine KX Lab as a temple to automated knitting. Our master knit engineers and designers use the most advanced, beautiful, and environmentally-friendly yarns on Shima Seiki’s state-of-the-art computerized knitting machines to create footwear uppers and finished garments with virtually no marginal waste.

Millennials and GenZs value experiences over products, sharing over sole ownership, and entrepreneurship over employment. For this new consumer class, the old way of doing business simply won't work. That's why we are radically reinventing not just how products are marketed but also how they are designed, developed and sold.
